In Kansas, plans to build one of the world's biggest laboratories to research dangerous pathogens have run into trouble.

Scientist say the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) would attempt to develop new understandings about diseases like foot and mouth.

But the plan has drawn the ire of ranchers worried about the potential for accidents or escapes in the middle of cattle country.

In the current economic climate there is a great deal of doubt if the project will actually go ahead. The BBC's Matt McGrath went to Kansas.
